Great Scottish Run (7th September)
For the 2nd year running, 11 members (including boyfriends) from GI helped man the Scotland Street Water Station for the 10k & Half Marathon. With the 10k starting at 9:00am, we started arriving at 7:30 to set up the tables, unpack the water pallets and open the bottle lids. We have plenty of blisters and sore backs for our efforts. With cars regurlarly sneaking onto Scotland Street and coming through the water station, Nixie and Malcolm were rediverted to 'traffic duty' and got to practise some customer skills. We have to say almost all drivers were very understanding and our job was made all the easier when the races were in progress. Our station was 3 miles into both races so once the runners started coming through it was all hands to the pumps to get the water to the runners. The last 10k entrants passed through just after 10am giving everyone about half an hour to restock before the Great Scottish run passed through. It was mayhem again for an hour until all the runners had safely passed through and by the time we were leaving the winner had already finished the race.
Although not at the event, Cerys was doing her bit for the club, representing us at the SVA Referee's Seminar.
Gill was running the 10k and we all cheered her through the water station. A good show too, with 49 minutes...
Heres most of the troops after their endeavours, showing off our volunteer bodywarmers. Thanks to Stuart, David & Ian for helping too...
Oh and of course a big 'Well Done' to all the runners.
