22nd Nov    Scottish Cup Draw   4th Round

The 4th Round of the Scottish Cup took place with Sharon from GI & Laura from Jets making the draw, supervised by Steve Scott.

                                                                  GI         v  Edinburgh Jets 2

Volero  v  Pentland NUVOC2 or ORKNEY

22nd Nov  Div2     GI  4 - Jets3  1

An important win to keep the momentum going in the league and take us to 2nd. Jane successfully broke her wrist on Saturday night so we were a bit lighter than Saturday???? The initial exchanges were fairly even, but with Jets Schauer serving at 13-14 down the set disappeared from our sights, Boulton and Runciman combining well, to which we had no answers. A few tweaks to our passing unit which were introduced in the first set, started to work in our favour in the 2nd, allowing us to run our offence and suddenly we were competing. We took the 2nd set and ‘Game on’! We kept the momentum going in the 3rd with the team all bringing their service game today (especially Michalina and Sinead). We continually adjusted to a big block being put up against us at 4 and the set was ours. We took an early 13-5 lead into the 4th, but Runciman brought Jets back to 13-11 with some powerful serving, once we finally coped with it, we started the scoreboard ticking over in our favour to take the 4th set and the match.

21st Nov  Scottish Cup    GI  3 - Troon 2 0 (And Volero  0 - Killie2  3)

Finding ourselves at 1-6 down in the 1st set wasn’t exactly planned, but we pulled ourselves back into the game. Fairly comfortable win in the end but some of the Troon debutants showed some promise.

We shared the let with the boys from Volero VC who have some famous names from GI of old (Messrs Robertson, Kerr, McCabe and Duncanson). They were lined up against some famous faces from Kilmarnock (Mr Thomas, Green and McGuire). The Volero boys were really unlucky not to win the first set. Unfortunately Alan Duncansons knee popped at set point down as he was taking off for a spike. Questions were asked why he didn’t get it over the net for the team. Who knows what might have happened if they took that 1st set? Check out the SVA ‘Meet me at the Net’  report for a more detailed report of the match from Sandra Grubb.

14th Nov  Div2    GI  5 - Dundee  0

After a two week holiday, the girls were back in action. Jane, Hilda and Oliwia were out, but we still had 6 (with a minor scare added in). We were eager to ensure a victory with the inaugural outing of our new team colours. The game essentially boiled down to a serve / receive battle, with all the GI girls contributing with good service games. The passing unit shined and we gave Sinead the opportunity to express herself with her new found setting skills. Nicola had an outstanding hitting game. Sinead successfully varied the point of attack allowing Sharon and Michalina to get involved with good contributions too. We were punished when we lost focus, but all in this was probably our best performance in the last two seasons.
